Poison Ivy

So I got poison ivy AGAIN! Mind you the first time was like 6 years ago. You know what? It's still not fun! And the kicker is that I got it from the same darn mountain! But this time I had no Idea where I got it! Last time I at least remember the bush that I walked through. This time I have no idea where i got it. So here is my theory as to how I got it...

Process

This is a drawing I did for some magical singers I know. :) And this is an example of my process. It has been a while since I have posted a progress blog, so here we go.

Start with a gesture of the focal point. In this case Luke and Kristina.

Block in some background.

Start with some clean up, to help discover and figure out what works and doesn't work from my sketch.

Continue to clean up and start adding values.

Done with the sketch/blue line and general value masks.

Make it black and white.

Lay in a background color. In this case a green gradient. Having this background color helps tie the other colors together, giving it a a subtle cohesiveness (if that's a word). This first wave of coloring is UNDER the line work.

Adding more color.

And a little more...

Then when I am done with the under layer of color I do a layer on top that is opaque. This is where I add my highlights and clean up various things.

Here we decided we didn't want Kristina to look like a hooker ;) so gave her cute skinny jeans in stead of the creepy fishnets. And then added in their magic wands.

Week Two | Called vs Driven

This week was about being called verses being driven.
How it is okay to be driven but never at the expense of yous calling.
You must have a calling.

Church Notes | What do I Worship ?

This weeks the sermon was on tithing and how we spend our money. How our spending is a true reflection of what is really important to us. So I doodled the things I spend my monies on... gas, coffee, comics, art supplies, and apparently blue bird ladies (or I drew that before the study started ;P).

Week One | Servant Leadership

I am taking a 5 week class on Godly Leadership through Rock Harbor. After the 5 weeks they plan to plug us into a ministry in the church or at a local or global outreach ministry. This week was on servant leadership, they had us reflect on spiritual role models and leaders in our own lives and how they've influenced us, and what specific traits that made them good leaders in your eyes.

Church Notes | Calling

We had a guy come out who has a ministry in Hollywood. He and a handful of guys get together every Saturday to pray and study and lift each other up. They are using there talents, personalities, and most importantly their relationship with Christ to be a light in a very dark industry. I needed to hear this, it was a nice reminder of the ministry I feel called to.

Squee

This is a random doodle I did of a Hogwarts student, when I asked some friends what house she looked like she would be in they said Hufflepuff and I agreed. :)

Hiking

I went hiking with my buddy Phil. I have been sick all week on my spring break bumming around the apratment. So this was a welcomed outlet and a nice dose of nature.

It was so cool getting away from the city and seeing the beauty of Gods creation.

Watercolor Lady

This is what I assigned the kids. They had to do a design of what ever they liked, as long as it is not gang or drug related. Then they had to use all the watercolor techniques we went over at least once and pick a color scheme. I got bored, and decided to do one myself. I don't care what they say it was fun!

Church Notes | 4/5 Gods Wrath

It is good to be reminded of Gods whole character, even the more scary parts. The contrast of His judgment makes His grace all the more beautiful.
