Watercolor Lady

This is what I assigned the kids. They had to do a design of what ever they liked, as long as it is not gang or drug related. Then they had to use all the watercolor techniques we went over at least once and pick a color scheme. I got bored, and decided to do one myself. I don't care what they say it was fun!

Random Watercolors

I going over watercolor with the kids. When they were doing their assignment I decided to have some fun with the watercolors myself. The Medusa one really kind of sucks, but what are you gonna do.

Progress

I was talking with a student today about the importance of drawing, " The more you draw the better!" I said. Drawing is like any other skill that you have to practice and work at. The more you do it the better you get at it, the quantity effects the quality. You cant expect to write a symphony the first time you lay fingers on them ivories. The same goes for visual arts, I showed him this example.

I drew this fire candle chick lady person back in February of 1998, my junior year of high school.

I then showed him what 3 years could achieve with this one form January 2001, my second year at Cal State Fullerton. I used oil pastels on this one, and we are just happening to be going over oil pastels in class right now.

To illustrate my point further today after class I drew a new version. I know I drew her a few years back but I cant find that drawing, if I find it ill post it up here. And I was really tickled by the fact that I just happened to look at this drawing exactly 11 years later.

The Heroic "Villan"

Today I had to turn a student in for something pretty serious. Part of me didn't want to, I wish I could have just made it better myself. A small part of not wanting to was because I didn't want him hating me. I didn't want him to see me as a villain. But I realized that in this case I am going to have to be the bad guy to do the right thing. I just hope i a few years he understands that I was honestly trying to help him.

Being a sub sucks sometimes... I get attached to these darn kids.

Senior Prank Gone STUPID!!

Good thing I left for class early this morning to get coffee, because there was a bomb scare this morning at Sunny Hills High School. It was...interesting. I am sure it was a senior prank, and that seemed to be the census amongst the staff, but there is protocol to be followed and every room and locker had to be searched. By the time the searching was complete the parking lots were filled with paper mashay boat wielding students anxious to leave and only 15 minuets left in the first period of the day. You can imagine the calm and orderly fashion in which the students handled this situation.

Subbing while Doodleing

Some stuff I worked on in class today while subbing.

I am trying to be more free in my drawlings.

This is the process I had fun with.

A Week Excuse.

I drew and wrote this last week while subbing. Today was the first day I could get around to posting them.

While driving I realized that this past year has been very difficult. But would I change it? Now that I have tasted this kaleidoscope of flavors and smells would I, or could I abandon them for the safe and mundane vanilla? I don't think I could. I know sometimes I pick fruit that is not yet ripe and bite into it only to find bitter disappointment. Or I hesitate or forget to gather soon enough only to find rotten and over ripened opportunities. But what ever the outcome, I am learning, growing, and experiencing. What I am trying to say is that I am trying to live a life of risk for the Lord. I can afford to risk at this stage in my life. It is exciting and scary, to quote Eugene Peterson it's an "in between moment".

Subbing Day 3

The 3rd day of consecutive subbing. It was a short day we were out by 11:45, so I only had time to do this one drawing. She is a spider and a lady.

Subbing Day 2

I did these while subbing. I am enjoying doing these fancier and more elaborate "doodles" on scrap material. If I get enough pieces I may try and do a little show somewhere, And the theme will be "green" b/c I'm "recycling" waste and discarded things into art. It's just an idea... I dunno.

Any who here be the doodles in the order I doodled them.

Magenta & Sky Blue

I did this while subbing today.

She is pencil, watercolor, and tempra paint on illustration board. Who would have guess it? Get it? "Who" owls say "who" or "woo" rather but you get it.

I may touch her up in Painter.

"Mr. Franco can I go to the bathroom?"

(Thats right Mr. Franco is a total BA)

I finally started subbing and it was a very interesting experience, I'm looking forward to doing it again. I subbed 5 periods of art and one period of math. Most of the kids were well behaved, but some gave me a hard time, and cliché as it is my tattoo and sketch book scored me some brownie points.
